ICT integration in learning

 


The ICT based teaching and learning has a powerful and positive impact on students’ learning. Regular use of ICT in teaching, ensures in capturing more attention and interest of students in learning. Besides, ICT is also the main tool for twenty first century teaching pedagogy, On Monday, 12th of October, 2020, I taught English lesson for class three students through WeChat. The topic for the lesson was about Some birds of Bhutan. I did book talk and introduced the topic of the lesson by showing cover of the books.


After that I have sent all the images of some birds of Bhutan through WeChat forum. Then I gave the demo on how to read the readers on some Birds of Bhutan. It was recorded and sent in the WeChat forum for the students to look it as a guide in reading the readers following all the necessary skills in reading like intonation, fluency and clarity were some where more focus was given in reading the readers by the students. Students were briefed to read some paragraphs and sent back after recording their reading to monitor their reading.


As usual, this time also, the set objectives of lesson were fulfilled successfully. Students could do their activity without any difficulties Through student’s participation, I could make out that, students really enjoy learning online lesson. One of the advantages of being primary students was that their parents had guided them in doing their activity as students were suing their parent’s smart phones for online learning. Infract it has greatly motivated our primary students in using the smart phones as means of ICT in learning. Thus, Well ICT integration in learning online will greatly enhance and improve academic performance of the students. Yet, there were a few students who could not turnout online lesson on time but could reach the assign work after a day or two. And I accepted that because, their parents had to leave office for work.


I have used a desktop, a cell phone, internet and some video downloaded and means of ICT in delivering my lesson. In general, my lesson went quite well as usual. Hence, I commit to use ICT as motivational tool in delivering any kinds of lesson in my life, and I would recommend everyone to use ICT as tools in teaching and learning.

ICT Integration in teaching

 

The ICT based teaching and learning is very important in daily teaching and learning process in this modern era of learning. It enhances variety in the methods of teaching as well as preparing efficient teaching learning materials. The modern methods of teaching children using ICT overtakes the traditional method of teaching using chalk and chalk board. With the use of ICT based teaching and learning, learners are motivated and their boredom in learning is often disregarded. It is therefore very vital for every teacher to integrate ICT as a part of teaching pedagogy in this 21st century world.

On 18th of September, 2020, I taught the lesson for class iv English. The topic for the lesson was on Grammar-‘Direct and indirect speech. The ICT based teaching aids used for the lesson were: Desktop, mobile and Wi-Fi. Using desktop, I goggled up some video direct and Indirect speech from the internet and presented to students in the We Chat forum. I also made the video tutorial on the above topics and presented to students as means of ICT integration in my teaching.

The videos on direct and indirect speech were shared through We Chat and lesson objectives were fulfilled as expected. However, there were a bit differences in comprehending or understanding the task as compared to face to face learning. Nevertheless, the need for learning and keeping all engaged was favorable using online method of   teaching through We Chat.             

From this lesson, I have learned that, ICT has a greater impact of positive influence on learning and I am now very much convinced and motivated that, ICT facilitates better learning opportunities than traditional approaches of teaching. I found that the teaching and learning environment is made significantly diverse with the use of ICT in teaching. ICT has potential to improve students’ achievement in their learning. It was an amazing to learn that, students with low achievers, were also able to achieve better in their academics. Therefore, I strongly feel that the, appropriate implementation of ICT in teaching is really a motivational factor for better learning by the students.

ICT Integration in Teaching and Learning

 

Do you think that modern education can be enhanced with the use of Information and communication technology?  I would say obviously. The world would be dull without the spices of ICT in this 21st century. The knowledge of Information and communication technology has become very essential part of everyday life, specially the Schools and Institutions. ICT can be defined as an access to the information which includes storing, operating and receiving information in the digital form. It is the main source of information for very enthusiastic learners. The teaching and learning process could be more reliable and easier, because materials and information can be accessed and retrieved from the internet sources such as e-library, e-textbooks, videos and ready made resources on various subjects. ICT has interconnected the world. Hence I am going to write about the reflections about integrating ICT in my teaching and learning.

The lesson was taught on 17th of July, 2020 for class IV English. The topic for the lesson was about Question Tag from the grammar. Well at this juncture of close down of schools due to Covid-19 pandemic I should say that I was lucky enough to explore various ways and means to teach our students using the ICT facilities available within my capacity. While teaching my lesson, I used the ICT facilities such as laptops, mobile, videos and Wi-Fi to make my lesson very effective and efficient. I have downloaded the question tag video from the YouTube and shared through We-chat, because We-chat was the main forum through which the school author has decide to teach children specially the primary students of classes PP-VI.

The online class was very interactive and students actively participated in the lesson. Students showed their best attention and enjoyed through We-chat teaching. I instructed students to watch video and after the students to share their understanding about the video. Then the lesson was taught and examples were shared in the forum. After that the activities on matching as assigned and accordingly the students had done their activities and corrections were done through and appropriate feedback were also sent back to the students.

Although the lesson went very well using the ICT facilities as mentioned above, however there were some challenges teaching through online. A few students could not turn on, may be because the students are using their parent’s smart phones and parents might have been to their working stations at the time of teaching. Another challenge was with the students residing in remote. They did not have smart phones and We-chat facility and I could not teach them. However, I made call from the mobile and said that I will visit their places to teach them personally. Well ICT had greater effect in making teaching and learning more interesting and effective.
